The Cops Know My Kids by Name

This is the car my son Riley drives except his is fire engine red.

On his way home just now, he was cruising down the road and chillin.

He looks in his rear view mirror and sees a sheriff. "Uh oh", he thinks.

The sheriff pulls up beside him, rolls down his window and asks my son,

"Do you mind if I call you Riles?" Officer Shirley laughed as he asked.

Riley gave him a look and shook his head because he knew the cop was yanking his chain.

We. his parents, found it quite amusing.

My 18 yo has been pulled over for speeding two times. The judge threw both tickets out.

Riley's and Keenan's cars have had several attempts to steal them. Sheriff has been out here 3-4 Friday early AM to check the damage the would be thieves caused.

18yo has also had 2 accidents in this area in the past year, neither of which were his fault.

Now the cops feel like they know Riley well enough to tease him.

My question: Is this a good or a bad thing?

It's a good thing; that relationship could come in handy one day.... :)

I was in the same situation.
The cops knew me by name and joked around with me when they saw me and it helped when I actually needed them.

I agree good kid, good cop, good relationship ! awesome it many ways.
At least it will make him stay that way.
My brother had a unique hotted up car with number plates "Murhpy" tinted windows and he was a bit of a rev head.
He did get pulled over to check the car was legal (modifications) ...
sometimes unfairly.
The cop got a big surprise one day when he pulled my Mum over for nothing ... couldn't see her driving for the tinted windows LOL

Oh I think it's a good thing too! Esp. since it sounds like Riley can take a little teasing, just laugh it off. Makes both sides see each other as real people, not just "that teenager" and "those cops" --
