Now A Look Forward

I put up the smile award because you, my 6 blog readers, make me smile. You leave insightful and funny comments and I appreciate that!! Reading every one's blogs also makes me smile most of the time. Most of ya are darn funny! And silly.

In the year 2008 I will graduate with an AA. (Woohoo, big deal right?) Hey! Passing these science classes were a true challenge for me. I will apply for next fall's LPN program and see what happens there. I'm unsure of what I will do if I don't get in. I figure I can deal with that when the time comes. There are several possibilities.

I am quite hopeful that my boys will continue to be relatively successful. A nice calm and quiet year in regards to the teens would be nice!

I will continue to make an effort to rediscover my husband and help him to see who I am now. I may also kill the man with too much sex as I rediscovered the pleasure in that activity!!!! A lovely surprise as there was a major lag after Brennie got sick and died and after my mom went. Grief and depression are powerful libido killers.

I can honestly say I do not feel depressed at all right now. A little tweak in meds and BINGO! We have a winner! I think I've finally accepted the fact there will be no more children. I can rejoice with friends who are having children without feeling sorry for myself.

In 2008 my life will be all about upward and onward!

Taking A Glance Back

The past year has been mixed between good and bad, new and old, excitement and disappointments, surprises and shocks and overall, I'd have to call it mediocre. 2007 was a mediocre year. I've had to learn about limitations. There are limits on my powers as a parent. We raised the kid and now he has to sail on his own. I have limits on my future financially and academically. So I'm not as bright as I thought I was. Nor am I as alone as I thought I was. I am not the girl I was at 22, I don't have enough of the memory needed in a class like Anatomy & Physiology 205. I have better processing and cognitive skills than I did in my 20's. I'm more flexible and creative now. I'm more forgiving and immensely more tolerant of events and people.

I'm still me. It's been a mediocre year. I know 2008 will be better. I know I am better than I have been in a long time. I'm more positive, energetic and upbeat than I have been. I know 2008 will be a much better year! :)

I'm A Bad Jewelry..........

Photographer!!! I did get some very nice anniversary bling............It's 3 aquamarines with teeny diamonds on each side. I like aquas BETTER than diamonds as they're my birthstone along with McHub's, Brennan's and my mom's. I also love the way they are the color of crystal blue water. Ya'll know I LURVE water!!!

Thursday Thirteen: Why My Marriage Works...

Why my marriage works and is a work in progress:

1. McHub's legs are still awesome.

2. He has stayed through life, death, happiness, depression, grief and slow recovery. That takes courage.

3. We can still bring that "Whoa! Damn!" feeling back when we really need it.

4. We've not harmed one another through 6 moves.

5. Though sometimes hard for me to see, He does support my going to college and my journey to find where I fit in this world.

6. We make beautiful babies. We can remember our children BEFORE the evil teen years and how much joy they've bought to us.

7. We know one another well but there are still surprises, good and bad.

8. Even after 21 years, we are currently figuring out a much better method of communicating.

9. We still have the same basic beliefs in life.

10. Sometimes we are what we need to one another.(Think Rolling Stones)

11. We know that each of us needs our own space.

12. He listens to me blather on...........sort of. ;)

13. Love endures throughout every thing and every day.

Happy 21st Anniversary Baby!!!!

So THIS Is Christmas?

I haven't truly enjoyed Christmas since my baby boy sickened and died. Even without really thinking about Brennan, I cannot seem to find the spirit of celebrating Christ's birth in the way I did pre-Brennan.

Having teenagers isn't a pick-me-up for the holiday either. BPB just received a car and wheels/tires so he isn't expecting anything. BBB wants clothes, cool, not trendy yet, clothes.

McHub is easy and will go with any plans. His family wanted us in Santa Barbara. Let's be honest, they wanted all the males of the family there. We don't have the money for plane tickets and McHub and BPB are working.

I choose this song by John Lennon because it has been linked in my head to the holiday for over 3 decades. It does talk about war being over, but it was sang in the 70's after Vietnam ended I believe. I wish for the small skirmishes that happen in our family are settled peacefully and with generous hearts.

A Memorable Gift or Two

Yup, time for Heads or Tails again. Don't forget to visit Skittles Places, this is where this fun meme was created!!

The topic today is Memorable Gifts. I have so many memorable gifts to remember. The first year I was married 1986, our first Christmas together and we'd been married 5 whole days. We picked up a tree for $10 the night before. We bought damaged ornaments from an old hardware store cheaply. We made a paper chain out of red and green construction paper. Yup, it was right outta Little House on the Prairie. Kinda like the Christmas on Plum Creek where Pa ate all the Christmas candy while he was stuck in a snowstorm. It was a budget holiday that went with out budget wedding. All that really mattered is that it was OURS. I still have several of the ornaments. Like our marriage of 21 years, our current ornaments are saved from over all the Christmases we've had as a married couple.

Our second Christmas/anniversary, my mother brought a magnum of champagne. I cooked dinner for my parents, Geo's father, my brothers and us. A turkey dinner with all the Radzik family traditions cooked by me. We all watched Scrooge and drank champagne. Even though we only had a one bedroom apartment, my father in law imposed on us and slept on our couch. That evening we decided to have a baby. We didn't care the old man was in the other room!! Gotta love champagne. BPB was conceived that very night.

Our third Christmas was joyful and the aftermath of a HUGE fight. First, there was our beautiful first born son sharing the birthday of Jesus with us. The fight was about Geo's father staying with us(we were still in the one bedroom apt.). I was PEEVED and insisted Geo tell him no. I left with BPB and stayed away for 3-4 hours, weeping as I drove. I don't remember if his father ended up staying with us or not. I brightly figured out that this man was dangerous because our biggest fights happened when he was around or about to be around. He was a catalyst for damaging our relationship. {Eventually, 4-5 years later, Geo eventually told his father that he could visit for only a week at a time, we lived in Washington State by now. His dad had visited for 20 days in July and I LOST it. Just completely lost it on my poor spouse. His dad got the message....finally}.

Our fifth Christmas with a 3yo and a 10 month old was one of our happiest. We lived in Bellingham, renting a house with a gorgeous view of Bellingham bay about a mile away. BPB was all about the holiday and brought us many treasures home from his Christian preschool. BBB was a delight. Pure joy and happiness. We all went to get a tree. BPB was very helpful in decorating the tree and tangling the lights. BBB had starting walking! Yikes! How to babyproof the tree? I blockaded it the best I could. I ended up calling poison control cuz BBB ate some tree needles. Silly kid would eat anything. We had money, a great place to live, I loved Bellingham and made some very special friends, Geo and I were quite delighted with one another and our boys.......the gift of pure contentment.

The Death of A Truly Great Songwriter/Singer

This man's songs are woven throughout my life from high school until now. He wrote some of the greatest love songs ever and also some great looking back song such as Auld Lang Syne.

I recall the song Longer from my senior year in high school, throughout college, and within the 21 years of my marriage. I am very sad Dan died at the age of 56. I pray he knew how much his music meant to people for the last 30 years. Rest in peace Dan.

From holding hands, to "parking", to making love, this song holds some of my best moments ever.

Longer

Longer than there've been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there've been stars up in the heavens
I've been in love with you
Stronger than any mountain cathedral
Truer than any tree ever grew
Deeper than any forest primeval
I am in love with you

I'll bring fire in the winters
You'll send showers in the springs
We'll fly through the falls and summers
With love on our wings

Through the years as the fire starts to mellow
Burning lines in the book of our lives
Though the binding cracks and the pages start to yellow
I'll be in love with you
I'll be in love with you
Repeat First Verse
I am in love with you

Kinda Dark and Blurry

This is what happens when I let my 16yo take the pictures. Any how, you can kinda see us before we went to McHub's work Christmas Dinner.
These are the best. The ones with the flash are scary awful so I'm deleting those.

Reasons I should avoid work related parties:

1. We had to go out and buy clothes, pricey. McHub got his at Penney's, mine were considerably more expensive as I went to Coldwater Creek.

2. Since I don't drink I don't find events where I know no one to be any fun.

3. BBB was left in house and BPB came home he noticed a girl cuddled up with BBB. Not allowed. Then BBB left with girl and went somewhere. He's not answering his phone and he's is mega, major league, just like taking steroids trouble!

4. I hate salmon and prime rib! The prime rib was still mooing..yerk.

5. The speeches which I don't understand because most of the workers are electricians or apprentices and I don't know nothing 'bout no blue collar jobs. (They're not bad, just an unknown in my semi-privileged white girl life.)

6. Watching half-drunk people learning the electric slide made me throw up in my mouth just a little. :P

7. We won a table decoration............um, NOT! I'm not carting a hurricane glass, a white candle and some greenery all the way home.

8. My elitist tendencies tend to pop up (inside my head) and I wrongly start thinking I'm at a different level than said company employees. I am not better and I know that, so I really dislike myself when my snotty upper middle class white girl voice speaks up.

9. I would have rather been having sex. (Wake up peeps...)

10. My 16yo sucks at portrait photography!!!

Thursday Thirteen

Speedcat had been bugging me to take a picture of myself so here I am, sticking m tongue out at all my fellow twisted readers and note I am off-center to reflect my personality. :P~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I detest pictures of myself especially when my face/eyes are swollen from sinuses and a lack of adequate sleep. (I would need 84 hours of sleep to look better in a picture.) Sigh, the things I'll do for my buddy Speed.

Thirteen Reasons I am happy finals are over and break has begun:

1. No need to study!!!!!!!!!!!!WOOHOOOOOOOO.

2. I no longer need to flash my teachers to get a better grade(evil grin).

3. The 1500% decrease in my stress level.

4. I know my head won't explode until after January 1st!

5. I can breathe calmly again.

6. Catching up on my news addiction will be guilt free.

7. I pulled an 88% on my A&P final.

8. More time to have sex. (Bwahahahahahaha, only I know whether I'm kidding around OR playing around =:-O! )

9. Now I can clean the house top to bottom..........SNORT! Yeah, shore, whatever.

10. Making new friends at Cre8Buzz.com is fun and educational!

11. Read more blogs, and more blogs and more blogs! Gotta catch up.

12. My 16yo doesn't get out of a school for a week, 19yo is working 60 hours a week and I get the hear the silence..........divine silence.

13. I can start dancing nekkid again to Robert Palmer songs! Teehee.

Water's Magical Mysteries

It's time for The Heads or Tails Tuesday! Go by and wave at Barb, Skittles Place!!!

I love water! I am a water girl, born and bred. I am also a Pisces, where the symbol is two fishies.

I was born close to the Atlantic Ocean in New Jersey. We'd go down the shore every summer and spend time at the water. My mom shopped for fish, right off the boat. Before I was 10, my mom had introduced me to flounder, cod, fillet of sole, red snapper, shrimp, scallops, lobster, crabs, clam chowdah. Since we were Catholic we ate no meat of Fridays which I loved cuz the seafood was tasty!!

We belonged to a swim club and by the age of 3 years old I could swim anywhere. I spent many, many days at our swim club entertaining myself in the pool for hours. My older bro and I playing in the creek near our home. We caught baby crabs, frogs, polliwogs, minnows and leeches(my bro sent me into a deep dark pool in the creek and I came out with 5 leeches clinging to my legs!!!)I screamed loud enough for several moms to come running! My bro was snickering the entire time. Jerk.

I discovered lake, lake and more lakes when we moves to Michigan. There a small lake every time you turn around. They were our skating rinks in the winter and where we fished for sunfish in the summer. We belonged to another swim club and swim team mania became part of my life. I used to be able to swim underwater for 2 entire lengths of the pool. In 10th grade I got my lifesaving card so I could be a lifeguard.

Swimming and social activities went together as I became a social teens. My dates used to be canoeing, swimming to the raft on various lakes, immersing myself in the magical properties of Water.

I floated. I can float for hours, seriously. Back, front or survival floating and I can do it for hours. I would float and dream underwater dreams. I was a mermaid, a dolphin, a seal, a shark(this happened before I'd attack one of my little brothers!)I love to sit on the bottom. I'd time myself and how long I could sit underwater. I dove for money or anything that did not float. I was content because I was in the water.

No wonder I picked a college on the cliffs over the Pacific Ocean. I swam at LaJolla Shores, Scripps beach, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Cardiff, Encinitis and every other beach I could find in North San Diego County. I also spent time in the pool during school. I earned my Red Cross Water Safety Instructor which game me the ability to teach swimming(fo' money) and lifeguard. Three of my summers were spent teaching and guarding. I was pretty tan and blonde!!(Hard to believe)

I enjoy nothing more than walking on a beach. Preferably an ocean beach but I'm not too picky. My ideal world would having me living near the ocean........the water calms and energizes me, makes me think more creatively. I love water.

On that note: The flood victims of Western WA need help. You can donate money through the Salvation Army and make for WA flood survivors.

The Yearbook From My Favorite Year In High School

This is the cover of Lahser High School yearbook.

1977-1978

This is my sophomore class picture. I was desperately trying to grow out a horrid Hamill haircut. That hair sucked so bad I wanted to hide im my closet for 12 months.

I got out my old yearbook from sophomore year and thought you might enjoy some of the comments as much as I did. :) I'm third from right, first row. YEEKS I was scary looking!

This is the inside of the back cover.

"Janice, we've come a long way from Hickory Grove Elementary Days and we've become friend too. Math was fun~but French was the best! Have a super summer and maybe I'll see you at Little League Games!" (Our little bros were on the same Little League team)

"Janice, didn't I tell you it would work out with John. Remember the days of the tennis courts last fall (gym) and all our talks? I'm glad we got to be better friends this year. You're really nice to talk to. This was a great year-parties, driver's ed, BIG high school. Have a nice summer and I hope we're in pre-calc together next year." (I never made it to pre-calc.)

"Jan, (which I allowed No One to call me!!)I've decided not to start out by saying I really don't know what to say or something to that effect, like most people do(especially me). So we made it through 10th grade. I hope we can (especially me) can make it all the way through high school. I wanted you to know that even though I'm always getting on your case, that I really don't mean what I say so don't take me seriously. Have a good summer and I'll see you next year" "P.S. Kareem Abdul Jabbar is a basketball player." (This guy dated about everyone in our group except me-I was dating a senior.)

Inside of front cover.

"Janice, thanks alot for making history more endurable this year. Between your "SEXY" dresses and your fickle moods, it was quite a year!" (This guy ragged on me all the time and really enjoyed dresses that came close to showing cleavage.)

"Janice, I'm soglad that I met you. You'r probably one of the most understanding, obstinate, fiesty people in the whole school! It's helped my transition to this school system. I still think Socialistic Democracy can be applicable to a large number od people and if you want, you can come to Antarctica and become a citizen of our country." (This was an extremely smart Asian guy. We had a blast arguing about everything!)

This was my funnest year in school. There were also many messages about me and my boyfriend, my doing honework 10 minutes before class, deep arguments about governmental systems, making out with my boyfriend(like 20 of these comments!), walking in the halls and getting nailed by a teacher for PDA(public display of affection), flower parties, winning Homecoming even though we were sophomores. Read this reminded of what I was like at 16~enthusiastic, loved learned, hated homework, was a mega flirt, tryed to be nice to everyone even when I was turning down the creepiest guy in school, who ask me out...eeeeeeeewwww.

A Tour Chez Janice

This is my front door. It's a glassed in mud room that we used for our weight set and storage which is why the windows are blocked up.

The big white thing is my car port where my Honda sleeps every night. This where most people walk to get to our door.

This is our driveway, looking at it from near the car port.

This is a squirrel's nest.

This is one-half of the squirrel couple that had dug through two plastic trash cans to get in and scrounge. They also scold the birds LOUDLY.

More trees from backyard. These two are left from a total of 6 trees that blew over 2 years ago. They are still alive so they really only leaned over. :)

This is the shed where our riding lawn mower hibernates. It is also the shed where we've had two very nice weed whackers stolen on separate occasions.

Here's the rotting old barn that is unsafe to go near let alone inside. Landlord jerk has a bunch of junk stored inside.

Lake Janice is now a pond that froze last night in the cold cold temperatures.

Again frozen pond Janice.

This the side of the place. The nearest windows are our laundry room. No that's not AC, it's some defunct heat pump. The further windows are the ones behind my couch in the living room.

I hope you have enjoyed your tour of the outside of my house!!!

Some Myth Busters

When I took the class Human Sexuality I learned many things that are NO longer valid. My book was published in 1980. Yup, the 1980 before HIV and AIDS, no wide spread chamlydia, no herpes. Reading this book now in 2007 is a hoot! I'd like to address a few myths that were taught in the old school version of this class.

Since I've been married for 21 years on December 20 I am discussing married folks.

1. Old people don't have sex. HA! Define old and the latest studies show people enjoy sex into their 80's.

2. Women have their sexual peak in their 30's. NO WAY JOSE! I'm in my mid-40's and it just keeps getting better and better.

3. Males have their sexual peak in their late teens. MALARKEY! Maybe certain things peak but let's face it, most of the these young'uns haven't a clue how to please their partners and they don't really care. Older men are not concerned about notches on their bedpoosts(I'm assuming a sensitive nice guy here) or how maqny girls they can "do" in a 48 hours period.

4. Making love/sex is a two person event(unless you're very unlucky)and communication between the two people involved is essential for maximizing sexual pleasure and satisfaction.

5. Hooking up is what I copnsider stupid~no connection except maybe a small sexual one. I don't judge others, I just think it's missing out on what could be a better relationship, even if only physical.

6. Sex has gotten much more complex then it was in 1980.

Decisions of the Difficult Kind

It looks like I won't be going for my bachelors of science degree. I am going to have to retake algebra 2(I need it to get my AA) and I will have my AA by the End of March. I'm going to apply to the LPN program again. I have all the requirements and it's a lot less money.

As much as I love psychology, it's not really practical. It would be 3-4 years before I'd be earning any money. The LPN program is one year and after that I'd be earning around $25.00 an hour to start. The entire program would be under $3500.00.

The university I desire is $24,000 a year. With a year prep in psych and then 2.5 years in the BSN program(easier to apply from the inside) it would be around $90,000. It's not practical and honestly I'm getting a little old to follow my idealistic dreams.

As an LPN I'd be helping people just a bit differently than I had in mind.

I should be used to this. Stuff happens. Crevices open in front of me more often than I like.

Three, Three, Three

Barb at Skittles Place is the creator of this meme, go visit her for more Heads or Tails posts!

Topic is three.

Three makes me think of many different things. One is the old Sesame Street (since Barb already brought up Sesame Street) Three, three, three. Let's sing about three. How many is three? One, two, three flying monsters. Three!

Three of a kind. And I don't even play cards these days.

Bad things happen in threes. I used to not believe in this but when my grandma, my son and my mom died within twelve months it seemed more realistic. I have no idea how this superstition started but I have heard it all of my life.

The Holy Trinity~The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit~the cornerstones of being a Christian.

Three boys. I gave birth to three boys and I shall always be the mother of of three.

Third times a charm~ahem. I don't know about this one as I'm taking algebra 2 for the third time (first two were in 9th and 11th grades) and it looks like I'll be taking it next quarter again. :P~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nativity scenes always have at least the three main figures~Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.

Three wishes~in all fairy tales and Aladdin (Stories of a thousand nights), the lucky person is always given three wishes.

Menage a trois~or a threesome....bleh. Not something I'm interested in EVAH!!!!!

One, two three, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is how many of my childhood races began.

Triad~the liver has triads in it which help it clean your blood of toxins and medications.

Triumvirate~like gold medal, silver medal and bronze medal in the Olympics.

Blood has three main ingredients~red blood cells, white blood cells and plasma.

Three brothers~I have three brothers. One older and two younger. I was a lucky girl growing up...NOT(rolling my eyes).

Three bedrooms in this rental pit.

Three kings of the Orient who came to visit the baby Jesus.

The Three Stooges~which is male comedy phenomenon which draws all men to it while most women find these guys fairly moronic.

Three Mile Island~core melt down near Philly in the 1970's (I think).

Three dimensional~a cool way to view things in 3 dimensions versus the 2 dimension pictures in newspapers, etc.

Three sided polygon is a triangle. Woohoo I just loves me some triangles. Yes I think I am edging towards exhaustion, the crazies and the pressures of shoving all the muscle info into my brain by Wednesday by 4p.m., and a math test tomorrow and I am so lost in the forest of irrational functions and blah, blah, bibble, yadda and blah.

Three's a crowd. Yup, it sure is at my house!!

Three on a match. I don't smoke but I have heard this is a superstitious thing.

Rub a dub dub, three men in a tub! ;)

Another! The 60's show My Three Sons. I used to love this show. :)

Movies: The Three Muskateers(also a candy bar) and Three Men and A Baby and Three Amigos.

My First Set Of Bad Photos

This is the view out of my closest window.

This is where I hang out most. See all the school books I should be studying.

These are the trees to the left of the view outside my window.

This is a shot of the rotting barn in our backyard and if you look closely you can see Lake Janice

We don't usually see Lake Janice until January. Because of a clogged storm drain that our moron of a landlord can't get around to clearing, Lake Janice visits every winter.

McHub ignoring me and my camera.

The fire pit of teenage socialization in our side yard.
