Why I have The Nasty CRANKYHEAD Virus

(This is sorta funny and also sad and poignant, just letting ya know.)

I have the nasty CRANKYHEAD virus because...

...After studying for days and weeks, I only got an 80% on my bones practical.

...My 16yo is being a jerk making the wrong assumption that his curfew is optional!

...It was 12 years ago today I got the word my youngest son's brain had shrunk and that he would die in the near future.(The irony of this happening on Halloween night and the day before All Saints Day was NOT lost on me.)

...Gas cost me $3.29 a freakin' gallon today. It's highway robbery I tell ya!!!

...algebra still hates me and dammit, I still hate it back! Nyah, nyah to algebra!

...Self-doubt is swirling around my head and refuses to be banished to Haiti!!
Uppity self-doubt!

...Not enough sleep coinciding with too much cortisol.

...No one had done the dishes yet...they've been there for over 4 days. It's so passive/aggressive annoying. I just forget, I'm not making a point, I've been overwhelmed with anatomy facts and physiology theories and concepts, imaginary numbers, absolute values, graphing solutions, stat plots, figuring out the right buttons on my TI-84Plus calculator, word problems and all other algebra related issues.

...My 19yo son has worked two whole days ON TIME!!! (Good Thing!!)
Yet, he's got the crankyhead virus also.

...How trite can I get away with...? No one understands me!!! Wah. Wah.

...I'm surrounded by testosterone dripping walls and a bathroom that smells of urine! EWWWWWWWWW!

...(Playing my mother's part when I was a teen)..I'll just go outside to the tree in the back and pluck some money for you.(Dripping in sarcasm tone of voice)

...The groceries I bought on Monday are already gone! My hub and kids should be renamed Hoover or maybe Dyson(wink).

...My Catholic guilt from my childhood keeps popping up at odd times, like when I remembered what today was and then thought, did I make Brennan suffer more by insisting on an EEG study? He didn't need it, but I did not know that at the time. My poor baby was taken off anti-seizure meds for a few hours and let's say it was very painful to watch. They did stop the study early after I learned his condition was fatal. I held him in my arms all night long...I miss my boy.

...On the other hand, House was genuinely funny this week!!!!

Ok. I'll stop my petty pity party. I think I need a pedicure tomorrow. Yeah, that could help. Thanks for being here!!
HUGS!!!

Manic Monday: Trick

As a girl growing up near Detroit it wasn't Halloween that got us kids excited. It was Devil's Night! Now this was long before burning down Detroit became a Devil's Night event.

Devil's Night was when we'd sit up in the roof with the hose waiting for some fool throwing eggs or trying to soap our windows. We were tame. Does anyone remember Ivory Soap? That was THE best soap to smoosh and scrape onto a neighbor's windows. Any fool silly enough not to park their car in the their garage was REALLY asking for it!

It was as of we were a wee clan of pre-Halloween leprechauns who preferred to do a teeny trick on unsuspecting folks. Everyone wore dark colored clothing. The ones who did the most damage were usually teenagers. My older brother, who had 3 whole years on me, got to hold the hose.

It was usually around 35-40 degrees the night before All Hallow's Eve. Anyone who came near got blasted with our super soaker(before they made super soakers)! We would yell, "HA! HA! Got ya!!!". This was pretty much my experience with Devil's Night. After all, I was a sweet Catholic girl....(snicker).

Toilet papering was a trick some used long after I was in bed. My brother was more devilish than I could even imagine.

One Halloween Morning a tall, bald, creepy, and nasty neighbor was knocking on our door. Honestly, I could see steam rising from Baldy's head. I was huddled with my 2 younger brothers at the top of the stairs trying to eavesdrop. We heard my mother screech, "JODEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Come here NOW!" My 7 and 5 year old brothers and I giggled and opened our eyes up widely as we wondered what our foolish 14 yo brother had done now.

By now, Mom's head was throwing steam as well. Jody came to the door and they all went outside to talk. Darnit! Now we couldn't hear!

Jody had slipped out of his room later the night before and cut the wire holding the board fence on to Baldy's above ground pool. We looked out my bedroom window and saw each and every board was down. My younger bothers and I rolled around on my bed laughing and laughing. Children think these things are funny.

Jody, however lost his sense of humor when my parents made him due errands and yard work for Baldy, for free, for several months. Poor, evil Jody.

Thirty some years later, I still think it was a pretty funny trick. Compared to what Devil's Night came to represent in Michigan, fires and riots, a trick with a wire cutter wasn't so bad!

A New Perspective Into MOI!

Considering the fact I have an A&P practical Monday, an algebra 2 midterm Tuesday and all kinds of math homework to finish before that....one might assume I should be getting busy. One might be wrong.

I am an expert at procrastination especially when my spouse is being a snert and washing his car inch by inch and being annoyingly productive. That brings out my will to do nothing even more. I know, it's kinda bitchy but the guy can be irritatingly superior over things like this and it's more fun to be childish after 21 years of marriage.

All those years I was so eager to please my spouse have waned, mostly because he does not celebrate my successes at school or in my personal growth. I mention I got an 89% on my A&P test and he grunted at me. I know he didn't enjoy school, but shouldn't he fake some enthusiasm when I slay the monster of Anatomy & Physiology?

BTW, I am not complaining, jest 'splaining. All McHub ever notices as a marker of my usefulness is if the kitchen is clean, if the dishes are clean and removed from the dishwasher and places in their proper home of the cabinets. KoffANALkoff.

He cares more about whether the carpet has been vacuumed in the last month more than he cares about how I'm doing in school. I put a dent in the rear of my car a few weeks ago and that bothers him more than if I dropped out of college would have. I mean, at least then I could get a payingjob. I'm not really worth anything because I have not added to the family income in over 20 years.

I believe we have very different priorities in life. I watch my husband morph terrifyingly into shades of his father in horror. He cannot sense this, but it is obvious to my children and I. He'd be less scary if he sprouted purple horns.

I no longer define myself by how my spouse appears to view me. I know I am not useless. I also know I don't give a damn about the carpet or the dishes.

I'm smart, smarter than I knew just two years ago. I am interested in the well being of others and I care about my friends feelings online and off. I can survive more tragedy than most. I don't wish tragedy on anyone! I'm just glad I know I'm strong. So much stronger than I was 15 years ago. I have accumulated wisdom. I have enthusiasm for life that even Grumpy McGregor's attitude cannot quash.

I enjoy being in college and learning. I don't think it's a waste of time or energy 95% of the time. It's paid for. 100% by grants. I am not costing Grumpy a penny when it comes to my re-education. I'm beginning to think I might just make it into the BSN program I want.

This is why it can be fun to annoy the Grumpster by appearing to be doing nothing. He's asleep by 10PM and misses the fact some nights I study until 3AM. I use my laptop to do my Drama class online. It may appear I'm messing around, I'm actually working.

I am not the girl he married 21 years ago, Thank You Lord. I'm better than that girl ever thought she could be. I love surprising myself by succeeding in things I was doubtful about before. I am woman, hear me roar(or in my case, snicker. Humor is much more fun than anger!!)

A Wild 'n' Crazy College Coed

The first time I went to college I was young and stupid. I did not appreciate how special going to college can be. I did, however, have tons of fun going to parties, bar hopping, climbing down the cliffs over Black's Beach in the pitch dark(YUP, I had been drinking), swimming at La Jolla Shores where the water was crystal clear and warm. I wrote for the school newspaper and had a huge crush on the 25yo grad student who was my TA in Physical Anthropology (he was DAMN HAWT and had done his undergrad at University of Michigan). I read tons of literature, history, communications theory and went to TOGA! parties, blah, blah, blah.

Even more than 20 years later I am still One Wild 'N' Crazy College Coed!!

Let's discuss my scintillating day. I spent 3.5 hours doing my film class assignment and got a perfect score on the quiz. Yeehaw! We be hopping now! Next, I did 90 minutes of algebra 2 homework and then I spent 2.5 hours attending my algebra 2 class tonight. Yippee Ki ai yi!! My last task for the evening was 3 hours of studying anatomy for my practical on bones and joints Monday. Am I the hip party girl or what?

This time around I'm in a take no prisoners study mode. I found out I actually got an 89% on my first anatomy & physiology test. BOOYAHHHHHHHHHH! Best grade I've ever gotten in A&P. I am capable of grasping new concepts. The next 4 days are all about studying for A&P, homework for algebra 2, studying for math midterm, and pound all the info needed to rock my world on test days!

A woman in my class was trying to tell me that I don't need a BS in nursing, I could get an ADN which is a RN program with no bachelor's degree. I was hemming a bit but stated I enjoyed college despite the stress of midterms. I love learning. I always have. I think it's important to get the major degree not just an associates degree. I want the intellectual stimulation that is part of the university curriculum. The mental/verbal gymnastics. The challenge of doing well in classes that I would never have attempted the first time I went to college.

This woman is ready to reach for goals that challenge me. I'm ready to succeed and earn my way into a profession I would have never considered back in the '80's.

Study on Garth! Study on! (Where's So-crates when you need him?)Snicker.

Thursday Thirteen #1: Midterm Madness

Thirteen Ways I Know I'm Getting Stressed Out:

1. I have a midterm/practical in Anatomy and Physiology 205 on Monday at 4PM.

2. I have a comprehensive algebra 2 midterm Tuesday.

3. My brain seem to have no room left for various non-school related details.(What? I have kids? NO! They're how old? Teenagers? Come on, are you sure about that??)

4. I keep having the feeling I'm forgetting some important facts.(You say I'm married too? SHUT UP! I don't remember being married....)

5. I resent having to do basic housework, like the dishes my passive-aggressive husband(Do we have any proof I married this dude?)left on the counter for 4 days!

6. The teenage boarders keep asking me why I haven't been grocery shopping recently. (Teenage Dudes! You are old enough to do this, I'll give you some money but you will need to physically go to the store, buy the food and bring it home. Got that?)

7. Quadratic formulas and linear equations are starting to look alike.

8. I have a very full laundry basket(with my stuff only)and I'm gonna need clean undies very SOON!

9. Thinking over my day, I realize I cannot remember if I ate anything today or not.

10. I have not read anything for pleasure in the past 4 weeks. :(

11. I'm losing track of what's going on in the world and I barely care as my brain is filled with shallow indentations, markings and prominences on bones, joints, and lots of bodily parts that have 16 letter names.

12. I feel like I'm being fast-forwarded without my permission.

13. I wish I had a computer chip inside my head instead of a brain.

Heads or Tails Tuesday: Train

Check out H or T over at Skittles place for more trains!!!

Ayup. I'm late today. My brain is full of greater trochanters, turbucles, condyles, bone shafts, endochondral ossification, synovial joints, cartiliginous joints, ball and socket joints, pivot joints and on and on and on. Anatomy and physiology midterm/practical next Monday. Somewhere else in my brain are quadratic equations and the function of X and scatter plots. Doesn't my life seem too cool?

The topic today is trains but I'm bending the rules a bit again and will use the word train. There are many people in this world I'd like to train to make my life easier. You lucky folks are about to read another fantastic Janice list!! Woohoooo!

People I'd like to train:

McHub~to see me as who I am now, not who I was 20 years ago.

BPB~to finish high school and to want to clean the house at least twice weekly.

BBB~to do his homework first and with a good faith amount of effort.

BFF~to have her wedding when I CAN attend!

Mike Rowe~to give the anonymous Mommy Blogger some Dirty Job LURVE!!!!!!!

The writers of House M.D.~to stop jumping the shark and to write some great funny scenes for the cast besides Cuddy and Wilson. House needs a love interest!

The media~Stop reporting every teensy detail of Britney, Lindsey, Paris and every other vapid starlet!!!

My A&P teacher~to make his tests a bit more student friendly. I don't want easy A's just write the darn thing in understandable English.

My film teacher~to try and teach the class the way it is described in the catalog. It's pop culture in film NOT film techniques in yawningly great detail.

Seattle weather~DUDE! It's October, get the damn 70's out of here!!! In the fifties please!

My blog readers and the potential readers~numbers! I'd love to see over 60 page impressions. If my brother can write about gurus and get 450 hits a day, why can't I get over 100? Yes, I did say gurus. I know! Who cares about them? My whole point! Jeesh.

Time~I need more. I need to train time to slow down a smidge. Life whips by so fast I know I'm missing out on some wonderful things. Put on the brakes Mr. Time!

My house~I'd love to train my house to be self-cleaning. Oh yeah. Because I have no time or desire to clean, I think the house should clean itself.

Groceries~train them to deliver and put food away once a week. If they could cook themselves, even better!

Money~it needs to be trained to fall into my lap! Oh yes it does. I'll share if money ever falls right into my lap!!

Dust~no training. Just vanish forever, NOW!!!!

Society~to be kinder to all. To stop all the violence and cruelty and have everyone treat others the way they want to be treated. Yeah, yeah, I'm an idealist.

My friends~you can all stay who and how you are. HUGS!!!

Manic Monday: Frost

When I was a small child, I considered frost to be one of nature's miracles. My older brother and I would fight over the window that had the most frost on it. I would press my thumb and leave my print on the frosted plane. Every morning the frost changed its patterns.

Frost and Fall went together in my childish mind. When the leaves changed colors, I knew the frost would be soon behind. Most of my memories of autumn include frost on the house windows, car windows and the garage windows. I grew up in a fairytale land where colored leaves signalled one of my favorite times of the year. Football games, wearing sweaters and breathing out frosty plumes from my mouth. Seeing my breath visibly was incredible, a thing of wonder.

Mike Rowe and a Certain Mommy Blogger

Ever since I have read several posts by a certain Mommy blogger, who shall remain anonymous, I've viewed Mike Rowe in an entirely different manner. She is so much more than a Mommy blogger. She is a comedian, a fierce mom, a loving wife, a terrific writer and completely gifted when it comes to Photo Shop! This blogger has written several posts about her crush on Mike Rowe of the show Dirty Jobs on the Discover channel.

Every time I watch Dirty Jobs I think of this blogger. Today I was watching a mini-marathon. Mike got very dirty and I remembered the blogger with a crush offered to wash Mike's feet with her hair. Mike was very dirty and I don't think her hair could clean Mike all over, know what I mean? I started thinking she'd be better off with Mike in a shower. Mommy blogger could have one hell of a time washing Mike everywhere(!)with soap. This image makes me want a video of Mike and Mommy Blogger in the shower together. Is it hot in here or is it just me?

Mommy Blogger can wear a bathing suit but I feel strongly that Mike should be nekkid. Maybe he could clean Mommy Blogger's bathroom for his dirty job, after all she does live with 3 men. Ooooooooooooooh, can't you picture Mike on his hands and knees cleaning her bathroom? It is getting warm in here!!I just wanted to let you know that it is Mommy Blogger's fault that I now view Mike as something of a sex symbol. He's also very funny!

Bizzy, Bizzy, Dizzy and More Bizzy

Woowee. What a week! I took a quiz in A&P lab Monday and a big test in A&P lecture same night. Test in Drama yesterday. Math test tomorrow in testing center. I had an eye appointment today and yes, I am getting more near sighted. I hope this is the underlying reason for my frequent headaches. I also had an appointment with a school advisor earlier in the week. UCSD did not sending my transcripts instead they sent a note saying I owed them money from 1985...I PAID that in August, you morons! My advisor called and someone forget to take the hold off my records. GRRRRR. I have to resend my transcript request along with my 6 dollar money order. I had a meeting with my math tutor set up but I'm finding I don't need a tutor!

Next up, midterms on October 29 and October 30. Yikes. I need to hit the books and hard. I feel like I have so little time to do anything un school-related.

I found out tonight my BFF is engaged to the guy she's been spending all her time with. Whoa. I can't say anything as I started dating McHub and six months later we were married. I wish her the best! I might not be able to see them married as I start back to school January 2 and that's the day they were planning on getting married in Vegas. Rats. I miss all the fun. :(

I need to go to bed as I'll be up at 8:30AM to go take my algebra 2 test. Can you feel the time crunch?

Oh wait! My 19yo got a job working at a very famous online bookstore in their warehouse in Seattle(where the company originated). It rhymes with sham-a-zon. Snerk. 16yo applied for work at a sporting goods store. He hasn't heard back yet. McHub is working tomorrow. I might actually have to go to that thing called a grocery store to buy some food. I really miss Homegrocer.com!!! Never had to step in any store!

Have a fabulous Saturday my friends and readers!!!!
