Disorientation

Had an orientation at the hospital we'll be serving our sentences at, aka nursing student practical training. It was a bit skeery. It was hard to figure out how to get around the building which were built in 1918, 1970, and 2001. There's the old building, the towers(5 story) and another area that I did not hear what it is used for.

Our first clinicals will be in T4 which is a med-surg unit, Gero-psych which is a psych until for gerontology patients with dementia and other legit psych issues. Not an Alzheimer's unit. The progressive care unit which is a step down from intensive care. There's also out patient surgery but my time is 1:30-9:30 so I won't see the OPS unit until I switch to days in winter or spring.

It was intimidating. Nothing more fun that being low man in the totem pole.

Can someone remind me why I want to do this again?

Because it's very rewarding, and when you succeed and get your degree you can thumb your nose at the lot of them. Bastards. And bastettes.

And because you feel called to it. You can't ignore that! Yes, it's scary and intimidating - they want to clear out the chaff and keep only those who are truly committed - or maybe should be! Just kidding! You are the gold, Janice - you'll make it thru the refiner's fire and come out more beautiful than ever!

As you know, motherhood isn't all cuddles and sunshine - nor is it all nappies and vomit.

Marriage isn't all roses and sweet nothings - nor it is all thrown saucepans and tizzy fits.

And nursing isn't all florence nightingales and appreciative doctors - but nor is it all old buildings and statistical nightmares.

You are studying nursing because you seek empowerment and feel that this is your calling to give you financial stability, job satisfaction and worthiness - and because you will kick ass doing it, darlin'!!!!

Because my Auntie is going to be the best, and most concerned and loving nurse on the planet. People will so glad to have you there for them.

You were born to be a nurse, plain and simple. It is actually happening now and I could not be more excited and happy for you. Your talking "nurse talk" already. So proud of you.
